Regarding the woman who was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus [“Neurosurgeons Needed,” March 17], my mother was in the same situation just less than two years ago.
We located a fantastic online NPH group, and it was there that we were referred to Dr. Phillip St. Louis in Orlando. He did outstanding surgery on my mother’s NPH.
Dr. St. Louis of Associates in Neurosurgery is also the head of a study on NPH, and a whole section of Florida Hospital Orlando is devoted to NPH.
My mother’s surgery went great, and her results were fantastic. She was able to get in and have surgery without waiting for months and months.
Since Dr. St. Louis does this type of surgery back-to-back, day after day, week after week, he and his presurgery, surgery and follow-up team know what they are doing, even if the case is complicated like my mother’s was.
The discussion group saved my mother’s life and our family’s sanity because kindhearted people were there to answer our countless questions.
